THE SCHOOL ORCHESTRAL/CHORAL GROUP
At GSS, we recognize the tremendous influence that music wields. Music is a powerful tool that can be used to change the world positively. Moreover, music promotes immeasurable joy and unity and also serves as a source of employment opportunities for interested individuals.
It is on this basis that we offer world-class musical lessons to our students. Musical classes are held regularly on stipulated days; all topics related to music beginning from the elementary to advanced level are intelligibly taught to our students by ace, erudite and dexterous music instructors. In addition, the practical aspect is given utmost priority as our students are taught to play practically every type of musical instrument ranging from the violin, to the saxophone, the keyboard, drums, the flute, the clarinet, the guitar and so on. During their musical classes which are held three to five times a week, our students are permitted to play these instruments in order to hone their musical dexterity. Also, our morning assembly offers them the platform to display their musical knowledge and skills.
Our giant strides in music has not gone unnoticed by all and sundry as the Lagos State Government always invites our orchestra to perform at their periodic 'Festival of Choral and Classical Music'. Sometimes, our School is the only private school at such fora. We count this as a rare privilege and an honour. We have also featured in other musical events on various platforms including the ones under the auspices of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON).
Aside being taught how to sing and play musical instruments, our orchestra group members are required to attend music theory classes, and acquire certification in music by sitting for the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) examinations.
